Does my child need prior theater experience to join?
No experience is necessary! Our classes are designed to welcome students of all skill levels. We focus on building confidence, developing fundamental acting and vocal technique, and providing a supportive, creative environment for every young artist.
What age groups and grade levels are offered?
We offer tailored seasonal programs across distinct age brackets:
- 1st – 3rd Grade: Fundamental stage skills, character expression, monologues/poems, and group story performance.
- 4th – 6th Grade: Intermediate acting techniques, monologue work, blocking, and ensemble scene presentation.
- 7th – 12th Grade (Teens): Improv, scene study, character development, and performance techniques.
What will my student learn during the course?
Throughout the session, students will participate in:
- Improv games and unscripted acting exercises.
- Vocal projection, articulation, and physical movement techniques.
- Selecting, memorizing, and staging individual monologues or poems.
- Collaborating with peers on a group performance piece.
Is there a final presentation or performance?
Yes! On the final week of the class session, family and friends are invited to attend a Showcase Presentation during the final 30–45 minutes of class to see what students have learned.
Where are class sessions held?
Class locations vary depending on the season and specific course:
- Fairytale Town: 3901 Land Park Dr, Sacramento, CA 95822 (Indoor Children's Theater — check welcome emails for specific drop-off/pick-up gate instructions).
- NorCal Main Studio: 803 Vallejo Way, Sacramento, CA 95818.
What should my child wear to class?
- Clothing: Comfortable, easy-to-move-in clothes. On the first day, students receive a NorCal Arts T-shirt, which should be worn over their clothes to every class for group identification.
- Footwear: Closed-toe shoes with socks (sneakers or dance shoes). Please no Crocs or flip-flops, as they do not provide adequate support or safety for movement exercises.
What materials should my child bring?
- A labeled water bottle.
- A notebook/folder and pencil for scripts and monologues.
- Please leave electronic devices, cell phones, smartwatches, and personal toys at home or kept turned off in bags during class time for the safety and focus of all students.
Are parents allowed to stay and watch during class?
To foster student focus, independence, and peer trust, parents are asked not to stay in the classroom during regular instructional time.
- First Class Meeting: Parents join a 15-minute welcome orientation at the start of the first class session before exiting.
- Final Class Meeting: Family and friends are welcomed back for the Final Showcase.
What if my child has to miss a class?
We encourage consistent attendance so students feel confident during group pieces and final presentations. If your child needs to miss a day, please notify the instructor via email in advance so we can ensure they receive any necessary materials or script lines.
When will we receive class information?
Email is our primary form of communication. Welcome letters with class materials, syllabi, and parking or gate instructions are sent one to two weeks before class starts.
How do I register?
Use the registration link for your student’s grade group. Enrollment and current tuition are managed through the NorCal Arts registration portal.
