Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Non-Exempt; Part-time

Job Title: Stage Manager

Job Type: Part-time/Seasonal with opportunities to work multiple productions simultaneously.

Compensation Range: $22 per hour

Location: Sacramento

Job Summary: The Stage Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of a NorCal Arts production, from pre-production preparations to post-production wrap-up. They work closely with the director, cast, crew, and production team to ensure the efficient and safe execution of the play or musical. They communicate timely with cast and crew as well as cast parents. They are responsible for coordinating and managing various aspects of the production both behind the scenes and during performances.

Key Responsibilities:

Communication

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to serve as a liaison between director, cast, crew, and families
  • Leads production meetings and communicates updates, schedules, and expectations clearly and promptly
  • Maintains a professional, solution-oriented demeanor under pressure during rehearsals and live performances

Rehearsal and Performance Process Capabilities

  • Manages all aspects of the rehearsal process, including attendance, space preparation, and tracking blocking, lines, and cues
  • Ensures rehearsals and performances run smoothly and on time, coordinating cast readiness and technical elements
  • Supervises backstage crew and volunteers, and supports safety and focus during all stages of production
  • Facilitates strike and end-of-show procedures, including the organization and return of production materials

Documentation

  • Maintains detailed and organized documentation, including prompt books, reports, schedules, and inventory lists
  • Tracks and records all production-related updates, attendance logs, and technical notes
  • Handles administrative wrap-up, including final communications to families and post-show documentation and feedback collection

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Stage Manager, preferably in theatre productions.
  • Educational theatre experience.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Familiarity with theatre equipment and technical aspects.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols.
  • Flexibility in working hours, as evenings and weekends are often required.
  • Patience and ability to listen with understanding.
  • Ability to contribute to a harmonious team environment.
  • Ability to model an environment of safety, respect, and learning.
  • Capacity to follow protocols and processes.
  • Ability to work on a school site, and adhere to policies and protocols.
  • Multilingual English preferred.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of 48 college units or opportunity to take and pass the Paraeducator certificate*; (NorCal Arts can facilitate the scheduling of this test)
  • Verification of a negative Tuberculosis test;
  • CA Department of Justice criminal background check clearance;
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal background check clearance;
  • Passion for working with youth.

*Your employment is dependent on passing the paraeducator exam if you do not have at least 48 hours of college credit.
