THEATRE & FILM CLASSES "In person"

Do you know any aspiring young artists? NorCal School of the Arts has many ways to cultivate students' imagination and creativity! NorCal SOTA is dedicated to providing professional training opportunities through many different class offerings to build curious, creative, and confident artists and people.


FALL CLASSES:

Acting for Stage & Screen: 1st - 3rd graders  CURRENTLY SOLD OUT

Saturdays, 9 am - 10:15 am  |  September 25 - November 13, 2021 803 Vallejo Way Sacramento, CA 95818

Class Description: This "in person"  class is for young actors who want to dip their toes in the water and for those who have been acting for a while. Actors will experience the joy of delving into a character with body, voice, and emotions! Students will learn to tell a story with monologue and song. Participation in acting exercises and improvisation games in a nurturing, creative environment will enable students to step outside of their comfort zones and express themselves. Students will learn how to audition for stage and screen.

Acting for Stage & Screen: 4th - 6th graders

Acting for Stage & Screen: Teen Class

Saturdays, 12:30 pm - 2 pm  |  September 25 - November 13, 2021  803 Vallejo Way Sacramento, CA 95818

Class Description:  Whether you are looking to become a professional actor or just to become more comfortable presenting in public, this course will give you the confidence and skills to make you a success in front of an audience! Taught by professional teaching artists from the NorCal School of the Arts faculty, this class is designed for students of any personality and experience level. Students will learn voice and speech techniques as well as participate in fun improvisational exercises and games. Each student will learn how to tackle a monologue, as well as develop acting fundamentals such as stage directions, script analysis, and advanced auditioning techniques. The course will culminate in a final performance for family and friends.

 Vocal Technique

Tuesdays 4-5 pm "in person" October 5, 12, 19, 26 November 16, 30 and December 7 and 14                                                                 803 Vallejo Way Sacramento, CA 95818

Cost: $125

Class Description: Vocal Techniques class teaches students the fundamental skills for singing including posture, placement, breath support, intonation, and presentation. The class is designed to help students appreciate the uniqueness and power of their voice as well as understand the physiology needed to produce a healthy sound as well as the anatomy involved in vocal production. 

 Songwriting

Wednesday 6:30-8 pm via Zoom October 6, 13,20,27 and November 3, 10

Cost: $120

This course is for beginning and experienced songwriters and will focus on basic songwriting styles and techniques. Different songwriting basics will be presented along with easy to comprehend methods to develop the necessary skills to compose well crafted lyrics and music. Focusing on melody writing and lyric structure, students will be supported in developing their own personal musical identity. 

CAMPS

Enjoy a week of creativity & fun with professional teaching artists! Learn theatre performance skills while making lifelong friends. Classes include drama, dance, singing, improv, poetry, & more! TV & Film classes offered to students from 4th grade and up. COVID-19 safety plan implemented including temp. checks, masks, social distancing, small group cohorts and disinfecting schedule. Before & aftercare options from 8-9 am and 5-5:30 pm. Each week culminates in a final presentation for parents and siblings.

NorCal Performing Arts Camp 2021

Camp Themes & Dates



Who: All students in 1st - 8th grade

When: 6/14/21 - 8/27/21, 9 AM to 5 PM

Where: 803 Vallejo Way Sacramento, California 95818 (the Land Park area)

Tuition: $275.00 for one week-long session. Themes change weekly so sign up for one or several! 

Summer camp sessions will take place live and in-person this year on a one-week basis from June 14th to August 27th, 2021. A COVID-19 safety plan including social distancing measures, masks, and temperature checks will be implemented with small group cohorts. Campers will enjoy a week of creativity and fun as they engage in drama, dance, singing, improvisation, poetry, and more!

Sessions run Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm with before and aftercare options from 8 to 9 am and 5 to 5:30 pm. Contact us at info@norcalsota.org for more information.

Acting for Stage & Screen Summer Intensive 2021


Who: High school actors of any experience level

When: 7/12/21 - 7/23/21, 1 PM to 5 PM

Where:  803 Vallejo Way Sacramento, California 95818 (the Land Park area)

Tuition: $200. 

In this two-week intensive with professional teaching artists, students will master the art of monologue, scene study, and improvisation. Students will learn techniques to make bold and active acting choices that bring honesty and depth to each character. Students will also delve into the business of acting, how to give the best audition, and how to set goals for themselves in their artistic pursuits. A COVID-19 safety plan including social distancing measures, masks, and temperature checks will be implemented to ensure student and instructor safety. 

Applicants should submit a 1-1.5 minute memorized monologue video to info@norcalsota.org. Once the video is submitted, the actor will be contacted to register.
